Getting Started & Consultations
How do I schedule a free consultation with Leon Law, PLLC?
You have three easy ways to reach us:
Every consultation is free, confidential, and comes with no obligation.
What happens during my first consultation?
We follow a simple four-step process:
-
We listen — We take time to hear about your accident and injuries with no rush
-
We evaluate — Attorney Jose Leon or a team member reviews your case and gives an honest assessment of your legal options
-
We explain — We walk you through next steps, timelines, and answer all your questions
-
You decide — If you choose to move forward, we begin immediately. If you need time, there is absolutely no pressure.
Does contacting Leon Law create an attorney-client relationship?
No. Submitting information through our website or contacting us does not automatically create an attorney-client relationship. That relationship is only established after we expressly agree to represent you and execute a written fee agreement. However, we treat all communications regarding potential representation as confidential to the extent permitted by law
Fees & Payment
How much does it cost to hire a personal injury lawyer at Leon Law?
Nothing upfront. We handle every case on a
contingency-fee basis — you pay no attorney fees unless we secure compensation for you through a settlement or court award. Your initial
case review is always free.
What does “no fee unless we win” actually mean?
Our legal fees are a percentage of the compensation we recover for you. If we do not win your case, you owe us nothing. This arrangement ensures everyone has access to experienced legal representation regardless of their financial situation.
Will I have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses during my case?
We advance case-related costs (such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and medical record retrieval) while your case is pending. These costs are typically reimbursed from your settlement or verdict. We discuss all fee and cost details transparently before you sign any agreement.
Case Types & Practice Areas
What types of cases does Leon Law handle?
We represent victims of:
Do you handle cases outside of Phoenix?
Yes. We serve clients throughout the Valley, including Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, Glendale, Gilbert, and communities across Maricopa County. We also have offices in Peoria and Tucson to serve clients across Arizona.
Do you handle wrongful death cases?
Yes. We represent families who have lost loved ones due to someone else’s negligence. These are among the most emotionally challenging cases we handle, and we approach them with the compassion and determination families deserve
What if my accident involved a government vehicle or property?
Claims against government entities require written notice within 180 days under A.R.S. § 12-821.01. This is much shorter than the standard two-year deadline. Contact us immediately if your case involves a city bus, state highway defect, or municipal building hazard.
The Legal Process
How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in Arizona?
Under A.R.S. § 12-542, you generally have two years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. For wrongful death claims, the clock starts from the date of death. For minors, the statute of limitations may be extended. Government claims have a 180-day notice requirement.
How long does a personal injury case take to resolve?
Timelines vary significantly:
-
Straightforward claims with clear liability may settle within a few months
-
Complex cases involving severe injuries, disputed fault, or multiple defendants can take a year or more
We aim to resolve your case efficiently without sacrificing the compensation you deserve.
Do I have to go to court?
Most personal injury cases settle before trial. However, if the insurance company refuses to offer a fair settlement, we are fully prepared to take your case to court and advocate for you before a judge and jury.
What if I was partially at fault for the accident?
Arizona follows pure comparative negligence (A.R.S. § 12-2505). You can still recover damages even if you were partially responsible. Your total award is reduced by your percentage of fault. For example, if you are found 20% at fault and your damages are $100,000, you would receive $80,000.
How much is my case worth?
Every case is different. Value depends on:
-
Severity of your injuries
-
Cost of medical treatment (past and future)
-
Lost income and diminished earning capacity
-
Degree of pain and suffering
-
Strength of evidence against the at-fault party
We evaluate each case individually during your free consultation.
After an Accident: Immediate Steps
What should I do immediately after a car accident?
-
Seek medical care for any injuries
-
Call the police and file a report
-
Exchange information with other drivers
-
Document the scene with photos if possible
-
Gather witness contact information
-
Notify your insurance company
-
Contact an attorney before giving recorded statements to any insurance company.
Should I talk to the insurance company before calling a lawyer?
We strongly recommend speaking with an attorney first. Insurance adjusters are trained to minimize payouts. Anything you say — especially recorded statements — can be used to reduce or deny your claim. Let us handle communications with the insurer on your behalf.
What if the insurance company asks me questions I don’t know the answer to?
Don’t guess or speculate. If an insurer asks something you don’t immediately know, tell them you will need to get back to them. We recommend writing out the details of the accident beforehand: how fast you were going, what direction, what lane, weather conditions, who was in the car, where you were coming from and going. Stick to who, what, when, and where.
I was injured in Arizona but I live out of state. Can you still help me?
Yes. If your accident occurred in Arizona, Arizona law typically governs your claim. We can communicate by phone, email, and video conference, and we handle all local court proceedings on your behalf
Medical & Recovery Concerns
Do I need to finish medical treatment before filing a claim?
No, and you generally shouldn’t wait. While we want to understand the full extent of your injuries, waiting too long can jeopardize your claim due to statute of limitations deadlines. We can file your claim while you continue treatment and update the demand as your medical picture becomes clearer.
What if I don’t have health insurance and can’t afford treatment?
We can help you find medical providers who work on a lien basis, meaning they treat you now and get paid from your settlement later. Your health and recovery are the priority — don’t delay treatment because of financial concerns.
Can I recover compensation for future medical needs?
Yes. Arizona personal injury law allows recovery for future medical expenses when they are reasonably certain to be necessary. We work with medical experts to project your future care needs and include them in your demand.
What if my injuries seem minor at first but get worse later?
This is common with soft tissue injuries, concussions, and spinal issues. Always seek immediate medical attention after an accident, and follow up if symptoms worsen. Delayed symptoms are well-documented in medical literature and do not invalidate your claim.
Compensation & Damages
What types of compensation can I recover?
Arizona personal injury victims may recover:
-
Medical expenses — emergency care, hospitalization, surgery, rehabilitation, prescriptions, and future medical needs
-
Lost wages and earning capacity — income already missed and future income you cannot earn due to injuries
-
Pain and suffering — physical pain, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and diminished quality of life
-
Property damage — repair or replacement costs for your vehicle or other property
-
Loss of consortium — impact on your relationship with a spouse or family member
-
Punitive damages — in cases of extreme recklessness or intentional misconduct
What if the at-fault driver doesn’t have insurance?
You may still have options through your own uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage, or by pursuing the at-fault driver’s personal assets. We explore every available avenue for recovery.
Will my settlement be taxed?
Generally, compensatory damages for physical injuries are not taxable under federal law. However, portions of your settlement allocated to lost wages or punitive damages may have tax implications. We recommend consulting a tax professional regarding your specific settlement.
